My boy Chance Warhol from the NOBOTS released the artwork for his album Japanese Lunchbox: A Love Story today comin out Feb. 13th, 2010.
Its DOPE! I told him this picture really speaks 1000 words! He let me preview some of the album and its CRAZY. Its definitely something new and progressive not even just for Nashville, but all music. Im glad he let me feature on it and be apart of it! Our track together is sick. Im lookin forward to the release tho, and on 2/12/2010 Ill be right in the front gettin hype and showin my support!
I know, for the past few months I've been suckin on keepin yall posted thru the blog, but IM BAAAAAACK. We'll see how long my constant posting will last lol.
ANYWAY, i have alot to fill you in on. Perfromance, Overnight Mixtape 6, school, etc. so heeeeerreee we go

Actually the flier has an error, doors open at 9, show starts at 10. I'll go on late like round midnight. Be nice if you stick around, wont hate on you if you dont lol. So bring a friend. OPENMIC will be rockin the stage with me, and we always put it down live so no question thatll the show will be hype as usual.
Ok, now for Overnight Mixtape, Vol. 6... after last weeks disappointment, IM SO EXCITED CUZ WE ARE BACK! Ive been writing my butt off in preparation for the HUGEST MIXTAPE COMEBACK IN RAP HISTORY! Hahaha so seriously, just get ready... thats all ima say. Me, Grady, and Sir Lazenby are hungrier than ever. So just know that we are BRINGIN IT tomorrow night after my show. Overnight 6 is goin down in HISTORY!
FINALLY, yall know I always got drama at school... I always got drama either with my professors or the Admissions, Financial Aid folk, whatever... Well, the most recent drama is some lady, who shall not be named, tellin me how to spend my free time! I know Im graduating, I know I will get my degree... eventually. Im not concerned about that. But my PRIORITY is making sure I grind hard enuff while im here to ensure that the second I walk across that stage, I will already be walking into the world a financially stable man in my career. Im finna be huge. Famous. Large. Everything. Im not there yet. So I have work to do. And ill be DARNED (lol) if ANYBODY tell me I need to focus more on my studies to make better grades...
TRICK, last time I checked yall took me off scholarship and replaced it with loans, so please lemme do me. Straight up, she told me I need to spend less time on the music cuz its not so important now. Woman please. This IS my life. School is easy. School is nothing. Then she said "Im an academic role model. people pay attention to the grades I make." ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!?! i have NEVER got off stage after performing and had a fan ask me what is my GPA.... RETARD. I aint never cared what anybody thought of me. Sometimes I might take it personal for a few seconds, maybe a full minute. Sometimes an hr if it stings. But after that whatever haha. So why in the hell wuld I care what a nigga gotta say about my GPA???
She called me to her office and tried to chew me out over some grades. Biggest waste of my time. Lemme get this straight, the school has taken me off scholarship, then she wanna take it upon herself to follow my academic progress??? For what? I dont hear u tryna offer me any money. However publishing companies are. Sooooo... Music wins. THIS IS MY LIFE.
She suggested I drop a class I wasnt doin to well in. Thats cool. But THEN she tried to SUGGEST what I should do with my free time after I drop the class...
"...and then have the extra time to focus on your other classes (notice I did not say to use the extra time to focus on music)"
HECK NAW! I AM A GROWN MAN! WHAT GAVE U THE RIGHT TO EVEN....
I replied with some professional yet straightforward email
"Well I appreciate the help, but I think I have the situation figured out now after talking with [my teacher] over the past few days and again today in depth. And as far as free time, I believe there is never a better idea than to devote more time to my passion and career."
Look, I hope she reads this. I hope she calls me back in her office to "talk".
I just think my university drama is funny cuz they gon be askin me for money and donations and to come speak and perform for the students when I make it big. Watch. And what Ima do? Throw em a few million and show em what my below average grade point average did for me.
ANYWAY, im at work lol. Show tomorrow. Mixtape Friday. I rock.
DJ Bateman and Yung and Ugly are puttin on a DOPE Hip Hop show tonight in Nashville tonight at The End. I been waiting for a HIP HOP show to kill some of my new songs live haha, and hopefully this will make up for the mixtape catastrophe last night (!!).
I thought i told ya that we wont stop, i thought i told ya that we wont stop....
VOLUME 4 IS HERE PEOPLE! THE OVERNIGHT MIXTAPE VOL. 4 IS HERE! WE DID IT! A FULL MONTH! A MIXTAPE EVERY WEEK! NO ONE GRINDS AS HARD AS WE DO! POP BOTTLES!!!!
The Overnight Mixtape, Vol. 4 is a milestone for us because we were able to get some freakin legit drops from GLC of Good Music and The King of the Trill, Bun B. That really set the tone of the tape. Me, Sir Lazenby, and Grady keep finding ways to step it up. And this week we have raised the bar once again. The recording process was shorter than ever, however the mixing took longer than expected because we all got a lil toooo cocky and took naps after we finished recording vocals at 6 am haha. I actually went to work and class, but Grady and Lazenby overslept. So the tape is still bein released late in the afternoon as usual.
Guest features this week are legendary. Simple. Straight to the point. Yet legendary. 615 reppers to the fullest. Of course the hometown hero OPENMIC, and FINALLY the only other rappers besides Mike in Nashville that I mess with, The N.O.B.O.T.S. YEA! Chance and Ducko came by the infamous Lazenby Lab and did what they do best. Well, we all did what we do best. Special shout out to Evan P. Donohue who came thru to grace the mixtape with stories about his lego building childhood lol
Overall, this is EASILY the best Overnight Mixtape yet. Vol 4 is the new classic. And i do not say that lightly. Spread the word. Actually I dont care what you do. We've already made it
Back from NY, still on a natural high from the city itslef... and already BIG THINGS are POPPIN!! Lol I got a phone call from my homie Tyzayah the SECOND i touchdown in Nashville and he tells me about an article in the Nashville Scene about the show im performing at on Friday. He said, "The article has ALOT of good things to say about you.... like... you're the next up in Nashville." OH SNAAAPPPP haha you already know I was excited and RUSHED home to check out the article online. And trust me, it did not disappoint. Heres a little from the article:
Future, rapper for local favorites Biscuits n Gravy, just released the solo EP The Sci Fly, and it's earned a place at the top of our summer jams playlist with its taught mix of electro beats, deft lyricism and pop hooks. With tracks like “Product of the Game”—featuring a fanboy-comes-into-his-own story—the bipolar booty bounce of “Heartbeat” and the soulful, sentimental hip-house of “Grow Old With You,” Future claims a space as one of the city's most innovative and engaging MCs.
Shout out to Sean Maloney for recognizing and acknowledging a nigga talent! I finally feel like the city of Nashville is taking notice like I've always hoped. Now that my city has my back, time to take conquer the world....
ANYWAY, the Scene goes on to say the the show this Friday at Exit/In is the NUMBER 1 SHOW TO BE AT ON FRIDAY!! LETS GET IT!! So in other words, YOU NEED TO BE THERE! The line up is RIDICULOUS. Rapper Ced Hughes is headlining, my homeboys the NOBOTS are in the house. Monster DJ's Wick-It and Kids Meal are puttin it down on the tables. And many more. This show will be EPIC. Check the flier for more info. See you there.
Dude is a genius. And not just one of them book smart, correct my english geniuses... one of them wise words, learned from experience, "listen to me and you might leave smarter than you came" type geniuses. I had the pleasure of kickin it with him at his crib this weekend. He scratched on a track on my EP "Grow Old With You" and did a hell of a job, so I FINALLY got a chance to meet up with him and pay him this weekend.
I never really had a chance to sit and chat with him even though I have seen him a few times and know of him, just never really got to know him. We have a lot of mutual friends with us both bein in the urban scene here in Nashville. For those that dont know, Wick-It is one of the best local DJ's when it comes to authentic turntablism, raw hip hop, and the roots of it all. He DJ's for events such as "Mashville" and "Blazin In The Boro" which are two of the bigger local monthly hip hop parties. So I knew him by reputation but didnt know much about him... until yesterday
When I got to his crib, I had my money in hand ready to just hand it to him and dip, but he invited me in, which I aint expect. So I just decided to go ahead and chill for a bit... hell, it was Saturday anyway
We went to his room where he had his turntables, computer, and THOUSANDS of vinyls. After sharing some pretty great "inspiration" (which was unexpected as well LOL) we just got to talkin bout life, music, interests, goals etc. I found out he's been DJ-in for bout 8 or 9 yrs now. He told me bout his middle school stories at church camp gettin caught listenin to NWA lol. It reminded me of my mom finding my hidden Eminem cd's and gettin pissed lol... oh what memories
The most insightful part of the conversation was when he gave his thoughts on the hip hop and overall music scene in Nashville. Its just interesting because in addition to me and my overall style of music, there are so many other artists that are not necessarily the same, but in the same category of electronic/hip hop/dance/dj influenced music. And its crazy because Nashville is well on its way to developing a "sound"... a straight up certified hometown genre that the rest of the world associates us with (and NO its not country for all you ignorant people lol). I learned about some great local artists on the come up:
>Speaker Spell, a group of 2 dj's that put on a crazy live show with light animations and graphics, heavily Justice and Daft Punk influenced. I didnt know there was anything like that in Nashville!!! http://www.myspace.com/speakerspelldjs
>N.O.B.O.T.S., a emcee and DJ with a twist... straight up electro-rap, techno dance music. the combination is ridiculous!!
So you already know ive hit em up on myspace about collabos and such. Nashville is def on its way and Im excited because I feel like I am apart of the next big music movement.
So Wick-It def dropped some crazy knowledge. He calls himself an "uncle" to younger kats like myself lol, and Im soakin in every bit of advice he has to offer. I now have even more confidence in my career and my skills as an artist
For those of you who dont know DJ Wick-It The Instigator, definitely check out his myspace link below. He is a local legend in my book.
We will be sharing the stage along with my band Biscuits and Gravy this Saturday April 4th opening up for the Nappy Roots at Exit/In. If you are in the area def come out
